THE TCF CANADA

It is intended for any person aged 16 or over, whatever their nationality or mother tongue, who needs to certify their level of French in order to immigrate to Canada for economic reasons or to obtain Canadian citizenship and who must therefore submit a file to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
GENERAL PRESENTATION
TCF Canada is a test accredited by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Since the end of January 2022, the TCF Canada is also recognized by the Ministère d’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI) for an immigration application in the province of Quebec.
There are no exemptions for the TCF Canada.

Presentation of the tests
The TCF Canada is composed of 4 compulsory tests evaluating the competences in French as a general language:
1. Listening comprehension: Group test: 39 multiple-choice questions (4 choices of answers, one correct answer)
2. Written comprehension: Group test: 39 multiple-choice questions (only one correct answer possible)
3. Written expression: Group test: 3 exercises
4. Oral expression: Individual test face to face with an examiner: 3 exercises

The TCF Canada has a total duration of 2 hours 47 :
– Oral comprehension: 35 minutes;
– Written comprehension: 60 minutes;
– Written expression: 60 minutes;
– Oral expression: 12 minutes (including 2 minutes of preparation).
